Archive
The archive (
Opening times) is home to a wide range of sources regarding scientific and technical history, with a focus on Austria and the history of the Technisches Museum Wien (Vienna Technical Museum).
In addition to the classic stocks of files on the museum's history, the archive of the Technisches Museum also stores autographs, bequests, biographical documents and portraits of inventors and engineers. In addition, it includes collections of technical drawings, blueprints, photographs, illustrations, paintings and sources regarding company histories. The wide range of historical stocks is a particular feature of the archive. These extend from bequests from famous Austrian engineers, such as Viktor Kaplan, Alois Negrelli, Johann Radinger, Ferdinand Redtenbacher and Josef Ressel, to unique photographic collections, such as that of the Association of Viennese Photographers of the Viennese World Exhibition in 1873.
The archive also includes the historical archive of the former Austrian Post Office and Telegraph Museum, the Austrian Railway Museum and the Electropathological Museum.
This archive is currently being reorganized and is only available to a limited extent for research.
Use
Use of the archive is only possible on prior booking in the reading room. The reading room is located on Level 5; access is through the Information area in the entrance hall.
