The Nazi era and the museum: A guided tour of history and technology

How were technical achievements used by Nazi leaders to spread and implement their ideologies? What impact did the Nazi regime have on exhibition practice at the Technisches Museum Wien (Vienna Museum of Science and Technology)? And how are objects that entered the museum as Nazi-looted property handled today?

Guided Tour
The National Socialist era has left its mark on the TMW. Many objects are closely tied to this period through their use, their significance within the museum, and their origins. They also point to the fates of individuals whose stories can be told through these objects. A critical perspective on this history is therefore essential.

This tour explores the stories of objects with a connection to the Nazi era at the Technisches Museum Wien. Using the example of the “Volksempfänger” radio and the punched card machine, we discuss their roles in the Nazi apparatus of power, while the Fiat 522 C relates the story of its expropriation and of Rosa Glückselig and her family.
