Meet the Maker*: Cyberdeck Workshop

As part of this “Meet the Maker*” event, techLAB will open its doors three times to anyone working on an electronics project for the first time who is looking for guidance, access to 3D printers and a soldering station, and emotional support!

The concept of the “Cyberdeck” was borrowed from the sci-fi classic *Neuromancer* and describes a homemade, portable minicomputer—long before the first smartphone was even invented. In contrast, they are once again enjoying great popularity on social media today: This is an attempt to offload individual smartphone functions, reduce screen time, and thereby lessen dependence on multinational corporations as well as on AI features installed without consent.

Come with your own ideas for a Cyberdeck or with projects you’ve already started, and use the internet, collective wisdom, and the techLAB’s equipment to take a step closer to realizing your dream of your first small electronics project. If you already have an idea, get the components and bring them to the first session. If the electronics are already working, let’s solder, program, or design a 3D-printed case together. If you don’t have an idea yet, you can find inspiration or just tinker with electronics. Stop by!

  • The event runs from 10:30 a.m. to approximately 12:30 p.m. and takes place at the techLAB.
  • Limited number of participants based on room capacity.
  • No registration required!
  • This is not a guided workshop, but rather an open space for experimenting, researching, troubleshooting, and learning together with like-minded people!
