Down the mine

How do people work deep underground? Together we explore the replica mine, accurate down to the smallest detail, underneath the Vienna Museum of Science and Technology!
For everyone
Age 7+
Guided Tour
We also take a trip into the past to see how coal was mined in Austria more than 100 years ago. In our display mine, we will witness up close how hard the work of the miners was at that time.

You can even experience real machines in operation, because here everything is still in working order, from the pneumatic drill to the giant disc shearer, which is capable of cutting 1,000 tonnes of coal from the pit on a single day.

Tip:
As it is quite dark and loud inside the mine, participants should be at least 7 years old. Children under 8 years of age may only participate if accompanied by an adult.
When booking, please note that you can only access the mine via stairs.

Meeting point: down the mine, level 2
