Down the mine

How do people work underground? Together we explore the replica mine, accurate down to the smallest detail, underneath the Technisches Museum Wien (Vienna Museum of Science and Technology)!

We also take a trip into the past to see how coal was mined in Austria more than 100 years ago. In our display mine, we will witness up close how hard the work of the miners was at that time.

You can even experience real machines in operation, because here everything is still in working order, from the pneumatic drill to the giant disc shearer, which is capable of cutting 1,000 tonnes of coal from the pit on a single day.
Please book in due time – the tours at 9 am are quickly booked out.
