Energy Transition? – Guided educator tour

Global warming and the energy crisis make a transition to sustainable energy more urgent than ever before. Our special exhibition Energy Transition seeks to explore how the energy transition can be accomplished, what innovations can help in this effort and what we can all contribute in our daily lives. On this guided educator tour, we present our accompanying education programme.
Like the exhibition Energy Transition, the accompanying education programme is aimed at pupils from secondary school onwards. In this educator session, we provide an overview of this and other energy-related offerings that can supplement your lessons on the subject of energy.

Our guided tours also address the question of whether a transition to renewable energy sources is possible in times of climate and energy crisis, and how this can be done. They follow the evolution from muscle power to power plants. Machines functioned without electricity for a long time, but have always been performing work. However, many of our modern everyday items would be useless without power. How will this development continue?

The Future Value: Energy workshop for young people aged around 15 and over deals with the personal and societal potential for change in energy matters. Participants work in groups to come up with possible strategies for the future based on their personal values and develop a scenario that matches their views. The pupils can select and highlight the objects in the exhibition that they believe are the most useful for the future. Another workshop addresses the question of whether clean energy exists at all. It also debates if electricity can ever be called “good” or “sustainable” and how “renewable” energy actually is.

The Technisches Museum Wien sees itself as a place of learning and discourse that bridges the realms of science, education, economy and society. As part of the guided educator tour, we present our programmes and are also happy to answer any organisational questions about how to prepare for a visit to the museum.
