Interconnected: Textiles and Society

Textiles are more than just everyday objects. Behind them lie raw materials, labour, trade and political decisions. This guided tour shows how they are made and what impact our consumption has on the environment and society.

Guided Tour
Textiles have been part of human life for millennia. From hand-spun yarn to high-tech synthetic fibres, their production tells a story of innovation, economic transformation and social change. Behind every garment lies a long journey. The guided tour follows this path from the extraction of raw materials, through processing, to the end of the product’s life.

Through historical objects and insights into new technologies, visitors learn how technical innovations have transformed textile production and what a significant role the industry played in industrialisation.

At the same time, we are turning our attention to current issues: Where do the raw materials for our textiles come from? Under what conditions are they produced? What are the consequences of global supply chains, accelerating consumption patterns and the disposal of large quantities of clothing and other textile products?
Discover how closely technology, the economy, politics and everyday life are intertwined, and why textiles are far more than just everyday objects.
