Guided Educator Tour
To help us understand the textiles we use every day, this special exhibition breaks them down into their constituent parts: fibres, yarns and fabrics. Where textile components come from and how they are processed usually remains hidden from view in everyday life. The TMW sheds light on the complex processes of the textile industry and displays historical exhibits from the Imperial and Royal Factory Products Cabinet and the museum’s Commodity Science Collection alongside contemporary garments. Where do they come from? How do we address the challenges of overproduction and textile waste?

This guided tour traces a path from the early days of the textile industry to the contemporary issues facing our throwaway society. A variety of materials that visitors can touch bring the stories to life and open up new perspectives!

The Technisches Museum Wien (Vienna Museum of Science and Technology) sees itself as a place of learning and discourse that bridges the realms of science, education, economy and society. During the guided educator tour, we present the educational programmes for school groups that have been specially designed for the exhibition – and beyond. We focus in particular on interactive exhibits and are also happy to answer any organisational questions you may have regarding the preparation for your museum visit.
