The big world of small trains

You love trains? Then join us on a journey into the world of the railway: large locomotives, small models and plenty of stories about the world on rails! On this guided tour, we discover how the railway started more than 200 years ago and how it continues to move our world today.

Guided Tour
Using both small and impressively large models, we explore the technologies and professions behind the groundbreaking developments that got rolling 200 years ago on Europe’s first railway lines – whether for the efficient transport of heavy loads or as an environmentally friendly means of local and long-distance travel.

Let’s roll through the exhibition “Under the Spell of the Railway” and learn how the railway has influenced not only the way we travel, but also our language. Together we will ask: How did people travel in the past – without smartphones and timetable apps? How (un)comfortable was travelling compared to today? What technology, knowledge and manpower are needed to ensure that trains arrive at their destinations safely and on time every day? And why are models more than just “toys for the living room”? Next stop: Vienna Museum of Science and Technology – we look forward to welcoming you on board!

Please note: Children under the age of 8 may only participate in our programs when accompanied by an adult supervisor. A valid ticket is also required for the accompanying person.
