Not hitchhiking through the galaxy, but traveling by Westbahn to Salzburg, Mission Control headed there to visit the special exhibition “Mars – The Discovery of the Red Planet” at the Haus der Natur.

After a briefing on the train, they immediately set to work on a small assignment: What expectations do the Planet Hunters have for the exhibition? Cool objects to touch and try out were an absolute must! Equipped with tablets for documentation, the Planet Hunters set out to explore the Mars exhibition in more detail. The Planet Hunters tested gravity on Mars, critically examined the movable models, and even found a recipe for Mars pizza in the kitchen of the Mars habitat. Other #highlights included a model of a greenhouse on Mars and the astronaut suits on display. Of course, a subsequent discovery tour through the rest of the Haus der Natur was a must.

After a quick bite to eat at the pizzeria (unfortunately without Mars pizza) and a stroll through Salzburg’s old town, it was already time to head back to Vienna. But the train ride wasn’t wasted: the Planet Hunters asked each other about their experiences as members of Mission Control. There was quite a lot to talk about! Mission Control was definitely in agreement: everyone is eager to participate again this school year!
