Imagine this: You're walking through the Prater and, just for fun, you scan a QR code located near the Extasy ride. On your phone, you first see a simple 3D model of Extasy. But waitwhat’s that on the roof?
Suddenly, a colorful, diamond-shaped object starts to spin and glowuntil it unscrews itself and a portal opens on your screen, pulling in nearby objects. Strange sounds begin to play, and a voice starts telling a story. Sounds like a cool idea, right? The Planet Hunters (as the members of Mission Control now call themselves) have been busy brainstorming at their last meeting, refining early designs for the AR object in Mission Prater and dreaming up exciting scenes for the AR experience. But that was easier said than done: To build stories around access to space travel, its environmental impact, and the connection between technology and wealth, they drew from audio recordings of past visits to the Prater and reports on recent space missions. Everyone will have to be patient a little longer to see how all the building blocksdesign, audio, and storytellingwill come together.
Next time, the journey continues at the sound studio of the Technical Museum. One thing’s for sure: some out-of-this-world stories are about to be created there!
