Dipl.Ing. Laurenz Seebauer

Head of Team, Hands-on

With the Vienna Technical Museum since:

June 2004

My duties include:

I have been head of the Hands-on Division since autumn 2008. Along with my team I work on building, maintaining and repairing our hands-on installations. These are interactive experimental stations which allow you, the visitor, to get hands-on and try things out for yourself. They illustrate how physics and technology work, making for a far more active museum experience.

My work comprises the following tasks:

  • Formulating ideas for hands-on installations together with our exhibition curators
  • Designing and developing their technical implementation
  • Managing the setting-up and commissioning
  • Providing technical support for the ongoing exhibitions

Building hands-on installations certainly is varied work. Besides the challenge of coming up with a bright idea for the hands-on station itself, there are always lots of exciting technical problems to solve during the implementation phase. It is this mix of technology and content that makes my work so exciting.

My recommendations for you:

  • Experience electricity close-up in the high-voltage demonstration. And our loudest hands-on is also a must-see – it doesn’t get any more exciting that this!
  • There are over 200 hands-on installations throughout the Technisches Museum. Discover them for yourself in all our exhibition areas!
  • And if your children are keen to read more about them, the series of children’s books published by the Technisches Museum takes a look at what’s behind all the physics and technology.
