Ing. Mag. Robert Kinnl

Member of the Scientific Staff

With the Vienna Technical Museum since:

September 1987

My duties include:

  • Scientific research and development work on the Museum’s collections, archives and the Österreichische Mediathek
  • Participation in research projects
  • Publications
  • Curatorial assistance with exhibitions

My key areas of research:

  • Austrian transport history, focusing in particular on the country’s social and economic history
  • Rail freight traffic
  • History of the railway museum
  • Biographies and legacies of leading railway personalities
  • Historical documents
  • As a freelance ornithologist I also work on research projects on the bird life of central Europe

My recommendation for you:

After visiting the Technisches Museum in Vienna, you should take a train journey across the Semmering, travel by rack railway up to the Schneeberg, or take the cable car up to the Rax. That way you’ll be able to experience a slice of Austrian railway history.
