Univ.-Doz. Dr. Hubert Weitensfelder

Head of Team, Production Engineering

My duties include:

Together with my colleague Mechthild Dubbi I look after the Heavy Industry exhibition and the Production Engineering collection area, in particular the collection groups on Agriculture & Forestry, Woodworking, Metalworking, Textiles & Clothing, Paper, Chemical Production Engineering, Natural Materials, and part of the special collections.

  • Expanding, developing, documenting and providing scientific support for the collection groups
  • Participation in collection-related research projects
  • Publications
  • Working on the complete inventory of the Museum’s collections
  • Curating exhibitions
  • Curator’s guided tours
  • International contacts and conference attendances

My key areas of research:

My work as a historian focuses on technical innovations, the early days of galvanisation and mercury extraction.
As a university lecturer I teach at the Institute of Economic and Social History at the University of Vienna.

My recommendation for you:

Interested in the history of technology through to the present day? Then why not link up with our library’s vast inventories at webopac.technischesmuseum.at. Once you’ve logged in, type for example the keyword “craft*” into the mask (with an asterisk* to pick up compound words). You’ll be amazed at all the things you’ll find.
