Preparation and follow-up materials

Complement and expand on your visit to the Museum with tailor-made educational material.

We are regularly asked about additional didactic material on the educational offer that is provided by the Technisches Museum Wien (Vienna Technical Museum). Thanks to the 2011 education initiative by the Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture, we are now able to provide it.

The Technisches Museum offers education content (guided tours, workshops, camp-ins, joint ventures with schools, etc.) from age 4 to retirement age. The offers have proved very popular, with more than 3,100 education packages provided each year to just under 65,000 participants. The main target group is primary and secondary schools.

To enable greater involvement with our mediation packages, we offer preparation and follow-up material subdivided into:

  • Educator information sheet
  • Preparation and follow-up material for pupils

The information sheet provides educators with detailed information on the mediation content, classroom experiments, and suggestions for relevant exhibitions at the Technisches Museum. A keyword index helps schoolchildren who do not have German as their first language to do their preparation work.

The preparation sheets are designed to provide pupils with an age-appropriate introduction to the topic. Tasks are used to awaken their interest, building on the schoolchildren’s own experiences.

The follow-up material picks up on the exhibits and contents seen at the Technisches Museum and consolidates the overall Museum experience. This in turn provides a deeper understanding and assimilation of scientific phenomena and social history events at different levels.

The preparation and follow-up material has been compiled by Wencke Maderbacher and Benedikt Rohrauer since May 2011 (Education Department). The educational material has been proofread and edited y Bernhard Schmidt and Ruth Senftner, with emphasis on the age-appropriate implementation and task allocation. The distinctive illustration work is by Amir Abou-Roumié, a regular contributor to the Quiz and Puzzle Generator project.

We want to expand the preparation and follow-up material further. The aim is to broaden the material to all education content that can be booked by school classes and also to have it translated into English.

The project was sponsored as part of the education initiative by the Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture (BMUKK) entitled “Cultural Mediation with Schools in Federal Museums 2011”, with the active support of KulturKontakt Austria.
