Guided tour (Grade 9 - 13)

Energy – from physical strength to power stations

9. Schulstufe – 13. Schulstufe

Mobile phones, computers, lights - many things in our everyday life require electricity to work. But how did equipment work in the past without electricity and how was heavy work carried out?

Put the plug in the socket and everything works! Just imagine how many things in your life would be useless without electricity. But what was life actually like when people didn't have any electricity? Who did the work, and how did machines function in former times?

In this guided tour, you'll find out how people let water, wind and sunshine work for them 500 years ago - and why today we are falling back on these ‘old forms of energy’ to generate power that is environmentally friendly. What alternatives exist and how is energy produced in Austria?
