We look forward to your visit!

Opening hours 30 May-31 June:

Planned opening hours from 1 July-31 August:
Daily 10:00-18:00

We monitor the current situation and the associated recommendations and regulations very closely and adapt our measures to the current circumstances. We have therefore developed a concept to implement a controlled gradual re-opening.
The health of our visitors as well as our employees has the highest priority. We ask for your understanding for the resulting changes in museum operations and for your independent assistance in implementing all protective measures.

How do we implement the protective measures
  • We are pleased that we were able to extend the duration of the exhibitions "Special Effects - The Exhibition for Film Fans" and "Work & Production" until August.
  • Our children's areas mini and mini mobile unfortunately have to remain closed for the time being.
  • The remaining exhibition areas are accessible without restriction.
  • Educational programs (guided tours, workshops, children's birthdays, etc.) are currently not possible. However, our popular high-voltage screenings are available daily under increased safety precautions.
  • To make the visit with children especially exciting, we recommend our puzzle riddle-rally generator (only available in German). Interested visitors have the opportunity to put together their own puzzle tour through the museum from over 800 questions or use templates we have put together. In addition, printouts of various riddle-rallies will also be available free of charge on the site.
  • The techLAB can be used with extended opening hours from 10:30-13:00 and from 14:00-17:00. Please understand that waiting times may occur due to stricter access restrictions.
  • The museum shop as well as the Joules Bistro are open for trade and gastronomy, subject to all security regulations.
  • Large events are not permitted until 31 August.
  • Our staff will of course be equipped with mouth-and-nose protection and our cash desks and information stands will be screened off by protective glazing.
  • The entire museum, especially objects that are frequently touched, will be subject to increased cleaning.

Please cooperate with us!
  • If possible, buy your ticket online in advance to avoid crowds in the entrance area. This also applies to free tickets for children and young people under 19 years of age.
  • Admission to the museum is only permitted with mouth-and-nose protection (exception: children under 6 years of age).
  • The Technisches Museum Wien is very large, covering 22,000 m2. Show consideration for others and keep at least one metre away from other people. Pay particular attention to this in smaller rooms such as toilets.
  • Preferably use the stairs. Use of the lift is only permitted alone or with persons from your own household.
  • Pay attention to breathing hygiene and wash your hands regularly. Use the disinfectants provided in the museum.
  • Take advantage of the possibility of cashless payment at the ticket offices, in the shop and in Joules Bistro.

If you have symptoms or fear that you are ill, stay at home and dial 1450.

Information on tickets and annual tickets already purchased:
  • Annual tickets are extended by the number of all closing days that fall within the validity period of the annual ticket. The museum was closed on 11 March. This means, for example, that all annual season tickets with a term until 30 June will be extended by 100 days or until 08 October 2020. This extension happens automatically in our system.

  • Tickets purchased online for educational programmes that we cannot hold are cancelled by us:

    - If you have paid online with a credit card, no further steps are necessary for you or no expenses are caused, your payment will be refunded automatically.

    - If you have paid via EPS Online Banking, we ask you to provide your booking details (number of the online invoice, name, tour purchased) in writing to information@tmw.at so that we can refund your payment.

  • Admission tickets remain valid.

As for many institutions, the current situation represents a great economic challenge for us. We would like to thank you for your loyalty and your support through your visit!

We will continue to inform you here about new developments.
